Cobb speaks on race in the American South as part of Flagler College Ideas and Images series

ST. AUGUSTINE, FL (09/20/2013)(readMedia)-- University of Georgia Professor Dr. James Cobb will speak at Flagler College about racial identity in the American South as part of the College's "Ideas and Images" program on Oct. 3.

A former president of the Southern Historical Association, Cobb has written widely on the interaction between economy, society and culture in the American South. His books include "The Selling of The South: The Southern Crusade for Industrial Development, 1936-1990," "The Most Southern Place on Earth: The Mississippi Delta and the Roots of Regional Identity" and "Away Down South: A History of Southern Identity."

Oxford University Press published his most recent book, "The South and America Since World War II," in 2010.

Cobb's lecture will take place at 7 p.m. in the Flagler Room of Ponce de Leon Hall, 74 King St., St. Augustine.

"Ideas and Images: Visiting Scholars and Artists Program" features an international composition of artists and authors, introducing a fresh and creative component to the greater St. Augustine community.
