HARTSVILLE, S.C. (04/17/2012)(readMedia)-- The Coker College Department of Dance, Music and Theater is proud to congratulate Marlin Ketter as the recipient of the 2012 Departmental Award. Each year, the department faculty select an outstanding graduating senior to receive this recognition. Ketter is a music education major from Hartsville, S.C.
"Marlin is a highly motivated young man with great potential to be a fine musician and performer," said Associate Professor of Music Will Carswell. "But more importantly, he is going to be a tremendous force for good in the world by being a great teacher."
Ketter was selected based on his overall contributions to the department. In addition to his dedication in the classroom, he has served the College in many capacities including as president of Coker's chapter of the National Association of Music and the Coker Singers and as a member of Omicron Delta Kappa, the National Leadership Honor Society; Kappa Delta Pi, the International Education Honor Society; Cobra Cast and the Coker Chamber Singers.
Ketter is also active in the community and has served as an afterschool program assistant at the YMCA, as a music intern at Thomas Hart Academy, as an advocate for the "Call Me Mister" program and as an assistant to the Hartsville High Band program.
