Cole Mace Named Iowan of the Day

DES MOINES, IA (07/29/2013)(readMedia)-- The Iowa State Fair Blue Ribbon Foundation and Cookies Food Products are pleased to present Cole Mace of Estherville as an Iowan of the Day for the 2013 Iowa State Fair.

Mace stops at nothing. At the age of 19, his volunteerism within the Estherville community hasn't gone unnoticed. Whether he is assisting with 4-H workshops, setting up flags for Memorial Day or making a visit to the local nursing home, Mace is constantly putting the needs of others before his own. One of his many honors includes the Presidential Award, which recognizes students for 100 volunteer hours in one school year. He was also named "Iron Man" by his high school wrestling team for both his hard work and "team player" mentality. But above all, Mace's genuine spirit has turned the heads of many.

"I have seen him work with all different types of people, from young children to adults in nursing homes, and he is very considerate of everyone to make them feel important and included," said Marcy Sander, Emmet County Youth Coordinator. Sander has worked with Cole in various 4-H programs.

Today, Mace attends Iowa Lakes Community College and is in the Wind Energy Turbine Technology program. He has recently become a member of the Estherville Elks Club. While working part-time in the summer months, he still makes time to assist the fair board with any improvements needed at the fairgrounds.

Mace's day of recognition will be Thursday, August 8 at the 2013 Iowa State Fair. Along with a one night's stay at the Downtown Des Moines Marriott, he will receive a cash prize, grandstand tickets and use of the Iowan of the Day golf cart. Mace will also receive a special introduction on August 8 at 2:30 p.m. on the Anne and Bill Riley Stage.

Founded in 1997, the Iowan of the Day program allows the Blue Ribbon Foundation to recognize Iowa's most outstanding individuals. The program continues to honor Iowan's across the state who have made a difference in others' lives, while upholding the characteristics associated with Iowa-dependability, integrity, hard work and sense of community.

The Blue Ribbon Foundation is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization. Since its inception in 1993, the Foundation has generated over $95 million for renovations and improvements to the Iowa State Fairgrounds.
