MORRISTOWN, NJ (10/29/2010)(readMedia)-- College of Saint Elizabeth (CSE) student Natali Exposito, '12, of Elizabeth, was awarded one of two Barry Gillman Humanitarian Scholarships by the Independent College Fund in recognition of her community service and academic achievement.
The second scholarship was also awarded to a CSE student, Rael Otieno, '11, of Stroudsburg, Pa.
The Barry Gillman Humanitarian Scholarship was created in 2009 through the generosity of the PNC Foundation in memory of a respected and beloved PNC colleague, Barry Gillman. The Scholarship honors the compassion and spirit of volunteerism by encouraging undergraduate students to continue in their humanitarian work while attending college. Two awards of $5,000 each will be made to qualified students each academic year.
Exposito currently serves as a Court Appointed Special Advocate in Essex County. She also dedicates her time to the empowerment of women in Josephine's Place in her community. Additionally, she has volunteered with the Sisters of Charity in New Orleans to help Hurricane Katrina survivors rebuild their homes. "I am very grateful and honored to have received this award along with Rael. I never imagined that I would be chosen for such a prestigious award," said Exposito.
