Colonie resident takes command of Army National Guard helicopter company

LATHAM, NY (12/09/2025) (readMedia)-- New York Army National Guard Capt. Alyssa Griffith, a Colonie resident, took command of Long Island-based assault helicopter company during a Dec. 6 ceremony at Army Aviation Support Facility #1 in Ronkonkoma.
Griffith now commands Bravo Company of the New York National Guard's 3rd Battalion, 142nd Assault Helicopter Battalion which operates eight UH-6M Black Hawk helicopters.
Griffith also serves as the operations officer for the New York Army National Guard State Aviation Office in Latham.
Her military career began in 2013 when she enlisted in the Montana Army National Guard at 17 as an automated logistics specialist. She was initially assigned to Detachment 1, C Company of the 1st Battalion, 112th Aviation Regiment in Helena, Montana.
In 2015 she transferred to the New York Army National Guard and was assigned to Delta Company of the 3RD Battalion, 142nd Aviation. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in History from SUNY ALBANY while attending ROTC to become an officer.
She was commissioned as an aviation officer in 2019 and attended Aviation Basic Officer Leader Course and helicopter pilot training at Fort Rocker, Alabama. She graduated from that course in 2021 after qualifying as a UH-60 pilot.
She was assigned to Bravo Company as a platoon leader and deployed to the Middle East as part of Operation Spartan Shield in 2022/ 2023.
Following redeployment, she served as the Bravo Company executive officer and as the Battalion S1 in a full-time Active Guard and Reserve capacity.
In 2024 Griffith led Bravo Company's participation in MARSOC 24-4 in Gulfport, Mississippi, which involved Marine Corps special operations units.
Her last assignment was as the battalion supply officer.
