Columbia Law School Student Receives Kelley Drye & Warren Scholarship From The New York Bar Foundation

ALBANY, NY (07/01/2008)(readMedia)-- John B. Quigley, a student at Columbia Law School, has been chosen as the recipient of the Kelley Drye & Warren LLP Scholarship administered by The New York Bar Foundation. The $10,000 award is available to second-year students attending Columbia Law School who have at least a B average and intend to practice law in the State of New York upon graduation. The recipient of the scholarship is selected by Columbia Law School. This is the third consecutive year that the Kelley Drye & Warren LLP Scholarship has been awarded to a student at Columbia Law School.

John R. Horan, president of The Foundation said, "We are pleased to award the 2008 Kelley Drye & Warren LLP Scholarship to John B. Quigley. Mr. Quigley's academic achievements and work experience in academia made him an excellent candidate for this award. We look forward to welcoming Mr. Quigley to the legal profession after his graduation from Columbia Law School."

A native of Jackson Heights (Queens), NY and a graduate of Regis High School (Manhattan), Quigley is a 2004 cum laude graduate of Amherst College (Massachusetts) with a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science. During his first year at Columbia, he achieved leadership positions in areas of international and public interest law. As the Career Symposium chair of the Columbia Society of International Law, he helped organize an annual event that brought 30 lawyers together to present on potential careers in international law. He was training coordinator for the Unemployment Action Center where he represented unemployed workers seeking benefits. This summer, he is working as an intern in the organized crime division of the United States Attorney's Office in the Eastern District of New York.

While at Amherst, Quigley was a co-founder of a student service organization called Students Engaged in Active Service, was a tutor in the A Better Chance House and was actively involved with WAMH 89.3FM. Additionally, he served on the Student Housing Advisory Committee where he organized the on-campus housing selection process, was a Senior Admission Fellow in the Office of Admission for three years and also served on the selection committee for undergraduate admission.

The Kelley Drye & Warren LLP Scholarship will be applied to Quigley's tuition during his second year of law school. His long-term career plans are focused on litigation.
