Common Cause/NY Applauds Judge Ho for Appointing Supreme Court Advocate to Adams Case

NEW YORK, NY (02/21/2025) (readMedia)-- Today, in response to breaking news that Judge Ho has appointed a Supreme Court Advocate to present adversarial arguments against the DOJ's motion to drop the public corruption case against Eric Adams, Susan Lerner, Executive Director of Common Cause/NY and Nick Akerman, Common Cause Board Member and Assistant Special Watergate Prosecutor, issued the following statement:

"Common Cause/NY is thrilled that the Court has taken our suggestion to appoint an independent counsel to present adversarial arguments against the Department of Justice's motion to drop the public corruption case against Eric Adams. Judge Ho's decision to put the public first when the Department of Justice and the Mayor have failed to do so, is why an independent judiciary is essential for a healthy democracy. This is the very meaning of the rule of law."

Earlier in the week, Common Cause New York sent a letter to Judge Dale E. Ho of Federal District Court in Manhattan urging him to appoint a special prosecutor to handle the case.
