Common Cause/NY: Counting Absentee Ballots Is Nonpartisan
NEW YORK, NY (10/28/2022) (readMedia)-- In response to news that Republicans were willing to defy a recent court order that allows New York absentee ballot inspection to proceed as planned but have since backed off, Susan Lerner, executive director of Common Cause/NY issued the folloing statement:
"The most recent court ruling makes the law in New York clear: absentee ballots can be canvassed as they arrive. This is a common sense requirement that allows election results to be processed in an efficient manner, just like in Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Oklahoma, and Texas. How is this a partisan issue? Election commissioners who do not want to follow the law should resign immediately and stop wasting the taxpayers' money. New Yorkers demand competent election officials, not agents of chaos."
