Voting Experts To Hold Press Briefing on New Ranked Choice Voting Exit Poll
New poll shows voters overwhelmingly used, liked and understood RCV in last week's second successful RCV Mayoral primary; Results show clear correlation between campaigns that encouraged and educated about RCV and better outcomes
NEW YORK, NY (06/30/2025) (readMedia)-- TOMORROW, Common Cause/NY Executive Director Susan Lerner, Rank the Vote NYC Board Member Rosemonde Pierre-Louis, and FairVote Director of Research and Policy Deb Otis will hold a press briefing on new exit polling on this year's ranked choice voting primary elections in NYC. The poll from SurveyUSA finds that voters across all demographics overwhelmingly said they liked RCV, understood the system, and ranked their ballots. The group will also highlight how voters took advantage of several other election reforms that Common Cause/NY and the Let NY Vote coalition fought for, including expanding early voting and changing New York's voter registration deadline. Press will have an opportunity to ask questions.

In 2019, New York City voters overwhelmingly approved a ballot measure to adopt ranked choice voting by a margin of nearly 3-1. Since 2021, all New York City primaries and special elections for Mayor, Comptroller, Public Advocate, Borough President and City Council use ranked choice voting. During the last Mayoral primary, nearly one million New Yorkers made history by voting in the largest and most diverse ranked choice voting election in U.S. history. Voters overwhelmingly embraced RCV, with 85% of voters ranking at least two candidates on their ballots in the mayoral primary.
