Common Cause/NY Responds to New Senate Policy on Sexual Harassment

NEW YORK, NY (01/30/2018) (readMedia)-- In response to the New York State Senate's revised policy to prevent discrimination and harassment, Common Cause/NY Executive Director, Susan Lerner, issued the following statement:

"The Senate needs to go back to the drafting board. The updated sexual harassment policy fails to outline in meaningful detail the procedure for investigation, particularly if the accused is a member of the Senate, or a timeline for resolution. It also includes a completely gratuitous warning against false reporting; an attitude typical of the pre-#MeToo era of intimidation. Employees at work in the New York State Senate deserve a considered policy and procedure for investigation that's explicit, comprehensive, and bias neutral."
