Common Cause/New York, NYC Council Members, Others to Call for Delay in Approving Verizon Franchise Agreement

NEW YORK, NY (05/20/2008)(readMedia)-- WHAT: Common Cause/New York to stand with NYC Council Chairs Gail Brewer (Technology in Government) and Tony Avella (Zoning and Franchises), along with other activist and civic organizations to call for the City’s Franchise and Concession Review Committee to delay approving the cable franchise agreement with Verizon

WHEN: Wednesday, May 21, 2008 at 11 am

WHERE: New York City Hall, Front Steps, New York, NY

WHY: A 12-year franchise agreement between New York City and Verizon New York will permit Verizon to sell cable television service throughout the city along with its phone and Internet services. The agreement was negotiated by Verizon and the Mayor's Department of Information Technology and Telecommunications. Participants will be calling for the City’s Franchise and Concession Review Committee to delay approving the cable franchise agreement with Verizon.
