Common Cause Statement on a Special Master for Redistricting

NEW YORK, NY (02/14/2012)(readMedia)-- Common Cause applauds Judge Dora Irizarry's decision to appoint a panel to select a Special Master to oversee the redistricting panel. The process is clearly broken as is evidenced by LATFOR's egregiously gerrymandered state maps, and failure to produce Congressional maps at this late date. Common Cause will provide our reform maps for the Special Master's review, and any other assistance we can offer.

In December, Common Cause/NY released a set of reform redistricting maps which have been hailed by the New York Times, Daily News, Newsday, the Syracuse Post Standard and others as a fair alternative.
