Community Performance Series Welcomes Nicholas Capozzoli for the 17th Annual Ranlett Organ Recital

Organist Nicholas Capozzoli will perform in the 17th annual Ranlett Organ Recital on Sunday, Oct. 23 at 3 p.m. in Hosmer Hall at SUNY Potsdam’s Crane School of Music.

POTSDAM, NY (10/03/2016)(readMedia)-- Community Performance Series will welcome organist Nicholas Capozzoli for the 17th annual Ranlett Organ Recital, on Sunday, Oct. 23 at 3 p.m., in the Helen M. Hosmer Concert Hall at SUNY Potsdam's Crane School of Music. He will also lead a free organ encounter the day before the concert, on Saturday, Oct. 22, also at 3 p.m. in Hosmer Hall.

Capozzoli's Potsdam performance will include pieces by Buxtehude, Bach, Schumann, Mendelssohn, Vierne, Guillou and Reger.

"We are excited to be hosting Nicholas Capozzoli this year. A very special thank you to SUNY Potsdam Professors Emeriti Dr. John and Dr. Judith Ranlett for making his visit possible," said CPS Executive Director Amy Flack.

A native of Pittsburgh, Penn., Capozzoli has established himself as a solo organist, harpsichordist and chamber musician of great distinction and versatility. He has won top prizes at national competitions, receiving first place in the 2015 Taylor Organ Competition, the 2013 Region III AGO/Quimby Competition, the Pittsburgh Concert Society Audition for Young Organists and the Carol Teti Memorial Organ Competition. He was also a finalist in the 2016 American Guild of Organists National Young Artists Competition in Organ Performance. Capozzoli was nominated as a member of The Diapason's "20 under 30 Class of 2015," which recognizes individuals under the age of 30 who have made significant contributions to the fields of organ performance, harpsichord and church music. His playing can also be heard on the nationally-syndicated "Pipedreams" radio broadcast.

Capozzoli holds both a Master of Music degree in historical performance and a Bachelor of Music in organ performance from the Oberlin Conservatory of Music, where he studied organ with James David Christie and harpsichord with Webb Wiggins. He is currently pursuing a Doctor of Music degree at McGill University in the studio of Hans-Ola Ericsson, and serves as assistant organist at Christ Church Cathedral in Montreal.

Single tickets can also be purchased in-person at Brick & Mortar Music in downtown Potsdam. Tickets are free for students, $6 for seniors and $10 for adults.

A 25 percent flexible subscription discount is available exclusively, in-person at the CPS Box Office when purchasing tickets to three or more 2016-17 Guest Artist Series events. The box office is open Monday through Saturday from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. and one hour prior to show time. Flexible subscriptions cannot be processed on the night of the event.
