SEWARD, NEB. (04/27/2018) Concordia University, Nebraska's 8th annual Academic and Research Symposium saw 80 academic projects from a variety of disciplines presented by 111 students on Monday, April 16 in the Thom Leadership Education Center on Concordia's campus.

"This year's symposium was the largest symposium yet!" said faculty sponsor Dr. Sara Brady, assistant professor of psychology. "It was very exciting to see students, faculty and staff milling around, attending poster presentations and oral sessions. The symposium is a great opportunity for students to experience a professional academic environment. It also allows time and space for the campus community to come together and share the highlights from the research and scholarship that is going on at Concordia."

The number of presenters this year was more than double the 51 of last year. Students presented a variety of semester or year-long projects at the symposium, including poster and oral presentations in art, biology, computer science, communication, education, English, geology, health and human performance, history, intercultural studies, mathematics, physics, psychology and theatre arts. Faculty members also supervised the students' work to ensure readiness by providing them with feedback and guidance.

"Some of the judges told me how impressed they were with the quality of work that students had accomplished this year," said Brady. "Faculty sponsors put forth a lot of effort in this year's symposium. Given the positive feedback that I received regarding the quality of presentations, I would say that our faculty at Concordia do an outstanding job with our students. Students should also be proud as they can take the skills of project design, collaboration and professionalism into the workplace and beyond."
