Connor Burgevin from Trumansburg Receives Prestigious Fulbright Award

Will Help Teach English and Serve as Cultural Ambassador in Morocco

Connor Burgevin from Trumansburg, N.Y., a graduating senior at SUNY Geneseo, has received a Fulbright Award that will take him to Morocco.

GENESEO, NY (05/14/2013)(readMedia)-- SUNY Geneseo graduating senior Connor Burgevin from Trumansburg, N.Y. (14886) has received a prestigious Fulbright English teaching assistantship to teach in Morocco starting next fall. He will be in the classroom in that country to provide assistance to teachers of English for non-native English speakers. He also will serve as a cultural ambassador for the United States.

About 1,500 U.S. students receive Fulbrights each year, awarded only to students who have completed their undergraduate work. Burgevin will be graduating May 18 from Geneseo with a major in English. He also was recently elected to Phi Beta Kappa, the nation's oldest and most widely known academic honor society. In addition, he is in Geneseo's honors program as an Edgar Fellow. Students in the Edgar Fellows Program must exhibit a high level of motivation and academic accomplishment.

The Fulbright Program is the U.S. government's flagship international exchange program, designed to increase mutual understanding between the people of the United States and people of other countries. The U.S. Congress established the program in 1946 under legislation proposed by the late U.S. Senator J. William Fulbright from Arkansas.
