Construction Begins On NY Works Project In Finger Lakes And Rochester Areas
16 Miles of Pavement Repairs Under Way in Cayuga and Monroe Counties
ALBANY, NY (07/27/2012)(readMedia)-- New York State Department of Transportation Commissioner Joan McDonald today announced that construction has begun to resurface portions of State routes 90, 104 and 441 in Cayuga and Monroe counties. The $7.4 million contract to pave 16 miles of State roads is part of Governor Andrew M. Cuomo's NY Works program.
"Governor Cuomo's NY Works program speeds up our bridge and highway reconstruction efforts and puts people back to work," said Commissioner McDonald. "The traveling public will see nearly twice as much highway work than just last year. We ask motorists to be patient and drive carefully through construction zones."
NY Works focuses on improving pavement that is in fair condition and bringing it to good. This preventive maintenance work will better preserve the State's infrastructure and guard against the need for more costly, in-depth construction. Bundling projects sites within close geographic locations into a single contract also enables DOT to lower expenses and obtain lower bids.
Road repairs have begun on more than 7.5 miles of Route 90 between the village of Cayuga and Route 31 in the towns of Aurelius and Montezuma, Cayuga County. Work is expected to be completed by the end of July.
The contract also includes pavement repairs on the following State roads in Monroe County:
• More than 5.5 miles of Route 104 from Bay Bridge to Phillips Road in the town of Webster. Construction is scheduled to begin in mid-August and continue for about three months. Most work will take place at night.
• Nearly three miles of Route 441 from Dublin Road to the Wayne County line in the town of Penfield. Work will begin next week and continue for about three weeks.
The contractor for this work is Villager Construction of Fairport, Monroe County.
Motorists may encounter flaggers directing traffic and should expect travel delays. It is imperative that motorists remember this season to drive carefully through the many highway and bridge construction zones they will encounter.
