Construction Management Professional Advisory Board Present Inaugural Scholarship to RWU Senior

Award goes to senior construction management major Travis Lescarbeau of Narragansett, R.I.

BRISTOL, RI (11/18/2010)(readMedia)-- In a ceremony held yesterday evening at the Shawmut Design and Construction Project Center in the School of Engineering, Computing and Construction Management at Roger Williams University, the University awarded senior Travis Lescarbeau the inaugural Construction Management Professional Advisory Board Scholarship.

The Advisory Board – a group of professionals who represent different facets of the construction management industry and voluntarily contribute their time and expertise to advising the construction management program at Roger Williams and mentoring its students – established the scholarship to support sophomores, juniors or seniors enrolled full-time in RWU's program.

"We had 100 percent participative support from the Board members in establishing this scholarship fund," said Board Chair and RWU alumnus Thomas N. Comella, Sr. "Our goal is to grow the fund to be able to help many more students in the future."

The scholarship fund received additional financial support from University faculty, staff, alumni and corporate friends as well as employers of RWU's construction management graduates.

Mr. Lescarbeau, a native of Narragansett, R.I., serves as president for the Roger Williams chapters of the U.S. Green Building Council and Sigma Lambda Chi, the international construction honor society. He expressed his gratitude for the award: "It's a great honor. I've worked very hard here at RWU and it's nice to be recognized. I'm glad to be part of the construction management program and very fortunate to have all of the professors who taught me everything that I have learned."

The scholarship selection committee, which includes representatives of the Advisory Board as well as the Roger Williams faculty, chose Mr. Lescarbeau from a pool of applicants based on his academic achievements to date, his demonstrated financial need and a personal written response to the scholarship questionnaire.

"We tried to select the most deserving student and from the faculty perspective, Travis stands out as one of the top students in the program," said Michael Emmer, one of the faculty members on the selection committee. "His answers to the questionnaire give us insight into his passion for construction management. Travis knows where he's going and has a clear path to what he wants to do in the industry."
