ALFRED, NY (05/15/2012)(readMedia)-- Courtney Lawson Brown of Williamsville was one of four graduating undergraduates recognized for outstanding academic achievement during Commencement exercises May 12 at Alfred University. She was part of the official stage party and seated on the Commencement platform.
Brown, representing the College of Business, was one of two students ranked at the top of the class of 2012 with a perfect, four-year grade point average (GPA) of 4.0. She is the daughter of Scott and Debra Brown and a graduate of Williamsville High School-South. Brown intends to attend graduate school at St. John Fisher College, Rochester, in the fall.
Founded in 1836, Alfred University became the first coeducational institution in New York State and the second in the nation. About 2,000 full-time undergraduate and 400 graduate students work and live in 52 buildings on a scenic 232-acre hillside campus adjoining the village of Alfred.
The nonsectarian University is comprised of the privately endowed AACSB-accredited (Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business) College of Business and the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, as well as the NYS College of Ceramics (Kazuo Inamori School of Engineering and the School of Art and Design). Bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees are awarded.
