OSWEGO, NY (04/18/2011)(readMedia)-- Courtney Lupton of Central Square, a human development major at SUNY Oswego, has received the SUNY Chancellor's Award for Student Excellence, the highest student recognition through the State University system.
Five SUNY Oswego students were among the 350 honorees from 64 SUNY institutions across New York state recognized for high grade-point average and extraordinary contributions to the campus and community. Students graduating between June 2010 and May 2011 were eligible. SUNY Chancellor's Award recipients were honored in an April ceremony in Albany.
Lupton also received the Helen B. Daly Award for Excellence in Research, presented at SUNY Oswego's Honors Convocation.
She served as an intern with the Oswego Children's Study, an investigation of the neurobehavioral development of young brains, and took part in the psychology honors program, working with a faculty sponsor on an intensive research project. She volunteered with the college's Office of Community Service and Service Learning and Head Start. She received the college President's Volunteer Service Award, Head Start Volunteer Award and, for making a positive impact on residence life on campus as a resident assistant, a Rising Star Award. She is the daughter of Michelle and Dennis Lupton.
Other Oswego recipients were Nicole Dean of Lansing, Michelle Hamann of Peru, Maine, Adam King of Houston, Texas, and Joshua Valentino of Mexico.
Admission to SUNY Oswego is competitive. U.S. News named it among the "Top Public Regional Universities in the North" for 2011, and the Princeton Review includes Oswego in its college guidebook "The Best Northeastern Colleges."
A 150-year-old comprehensive college in the State University of New York system, Oswego enrolls over 8,000 students in its College of Liberal Arts and Sciences; School of Business; School of Communication, Media and the Arts; and School of Education.
