Crane Faculty Recital Features Carol Cope Lowe on Bassoon on Sept. 12

POTSDAM, NY (09/08/2011)(readMedia)-- The 2011 Crane Faculty Recital Series will continue on Monday, Sept. 12, with a performance by Dr. Carol Cope Lowe, an assistant professor of bassoon at SUNY Potsdam's Crane School of Music.

The concert will take place at 7:30 p.m. in Sara M. Snell Music Theater, and will include works from a variety of periods.

Accompanied by Kirk Severtson on piano, Lowe will present pieces by Paul Hindemith, Henri Dutilleux, José Siquera, André Previn and Ralph Vaughan Williams.

Lowe teaches courses in bassoon performance, reed-making, repertoire, pedagogy and orchestral studies at The Crane School of Music. She is a native of Brevard, N.C., and has performed throughout the United States and Europe. While living in the Atlanta area, Lowe performed frequently with the Atlanta Symphony, including a 1996 tour to Carnegie Hall. She has toured and recorded in London, Paris and Munich with various ensembles and was a member of the Taft Quintet. As an active member of the International Double Reed Society, Lowe has presented recitals at their annual conferences.

Her degrees are from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, the University of Cincinnati Conservatory of Music and the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Prior to joining the Crane faculty, Lowe taught at Furman University, the University of South Carolina, Agnus Scott College and Erskine College. She is currently principal bassoon for the Orchestra of Northern New York, and is a member of the Potsdam Wind Quintet and the Aria Reed Trio.
