Crane School of Music Alumnus Kevin Moore Presents Piano Recital Tuesday

POTSDAM, NY (09/26/2013)(readMedia)-- SUNY Potsdam's Crane School of Music will welcome an accomplished alumnus back to the stage for the Alumni Recital Series next week. Pianist Kevin Moore '71 will present a concert on Tuesday, Oct. 1 at 7:30 p.m. in the Sara M. Snell Music Theater.

This event is free, and the public is invited to attend.

The concert will open with the Partita No. 4 in D-Major (BMV 8) by Johann Sebastian Bach, followed by an original composition by the artist, Moore's "Elegie and Dance." Moore will also perform a selection of works by Frédéric Chopin, concluding with the Sonata No. 2 in B-Flat Minor, Op. 35, also known as "The Funeral March."

About the performer:

Kevin Moore is a professor of music at Onondaga Community College and is also a studio associate at Syracuse University's Setnor School of Music, where he teaches music industry law and ethics. A piano performance graduate of SUNY Potsdam's Crane School of Music, Moore went on to earn his master's degree in piano performance from the Manhattan School of Music, and his Ph.D. in performance and music theory from New York University. Moore made his New York City recital debut in February 1976 and was reviewed very favorably by Raymond Ericson in The New York Times. He also later earned a law degree magna cum laude from the Syracuse University College of Law. His principal piano teachers have been Liselotte Schmidt, James Ball and Robert Goldsand.

Moore has given more than 270 concerts in the Central and Western New York regions since arriving in Syracuse in 1975, including more than 90 full-length solo recitals and many chamber music, choral and vocal programs. He has collaborated in solo recitals with saxophonist Sigurd Rascher, violist Paul Doktor, violinist Andy Zaplatynsky, and flutists Michel Debost, Leone Buyse, John Barcellona and Jim Walker. Between 2001 and 2003 Moore presented an eight-concert cycle of the 32 piano sonatas of Beethoven. From 1979 to 1992, he served as a classical music critic at the Syracuse Newspapers.
