POTSDAM, NY (09/06/2016)(readMedia)-- SUNY Potsdam's Crane School of Music will host the 2016 Potsdam Clarinet Summit on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 16 and 17, featuring a number of outstanding visiting clarinet artists from across the United States.
The Potsdam Clarinet Summit will feature exhibits, masterclasses, special performances and an instrument repair clinic, as well as social events.
Backun Musical Services and Vandoren provided generous sponsorship to assist with bringing guest artists to the summit. In addition, Crane School of Music students in the clarinet studio raised funds for two years to make this event possible.

The Potsdam Clarinet Summit schedule will kick off on Friday, Sept. 16 at 3 p.m., with a masterclass led by Chad Burrow in the Sara M. Snell Music Theater, followed by a break and time to visit exhibits. At 5 p.m., Dan Gilbert will lead another masterclass in Snell, followed by an opening concert at 6 p.m., featuring Julianne Kirk Doyle, Raphael Sanders and Andrew Brown. A welcome reception will follow in the Snell lobby.
On Saturday, Sept. 17, exhibits will open at 8:30 a.m. in Crane Room C107. There will be an alumni recital featuring Jennifer Guzman '11, Rebecca Scholldorf '15 and Christina Rawady '09 & '10, at 9 a.m. in Snell Theater. Two hour-long masterclasses will immediately follow, led by Andrew Brown and Eugene Mondie, respectively. There will be a lunch break at noon. At 1 p.m., Chad Burrow will present a recital, followed by a break to visit exhibits at 2 p.m. Dan Gilbert will perform in recital at 3 p.m., followed by the repair clinic led by Morrie Backun at 4 p.m. The summit will conclude with a recital by Eugene Mondie at 5 p.m., also in Snell.
The Potsdam Clarinet Summit is free to all SUNY Potsdam students, faculty and staff. Registration for middle or high school students accompanied by a parent or teacher (for whom registration is free) is $15. Registration for SUNY Potsdam alumni is $20, and is $25 for college students from other universities.
