Crane Symphony Orchestra Performs Alongside Concerto Competition Winner, Tim MacDuff, Viola

POTSDAM, NY (04/01/2014)(readMedia)-- SUNY Potsdam's Crane School of Music will present a concert featuring the Crane Symphony Orchestra on Thursday, April 10 at 7:30 p.m. in the Helen M. Hosmer Concert Hall.

The performance will include "Nocturnes" by Claude Debussy, "Viola Concerto" by Cecil Forsyth and "Symphony No. 7" by Sergei Prokofiev. Tim MacDuff, a winner of 2013 Crane Concerto Competition, will be featured in the viola concerto.

This event is free, and the public is invited to attend.

About the performer:

Tim MacDuff started playing viola at the age of 13 in the Hudson Falls Middle School orchestra program. He also started playing violin in high school, and served as concertmaster of his high school symphony orchestra. After spending a summer at New England Music Camp in Maine, MacDuff began taking private lessons from Sue Nazzaro in Saratoga, N.Y. He went on to attend the Green Mountain Chamber Music Festival, where he studied with Roger Myers for a summer. MacDuff has been a member of the Lake George Music Festival since its inception in 2011. Last summer, he participated in "Loon Lake Live!" as a chamber musician, with members of the Colorado Symphony Orchestra. Highlights of MacDuff's time at Crane include attending the International Viola Congress in Rochester, N.Y., with the viola studio, performing in the Crane Honors Recital, playing the works of student composers, and playing in the Orchestra of Northern New York. He has performed in masterclasses for the Alexander String Quartet, the Jerusalem String Quartet, with Gunther Schuller and Ryan O'Neill. While at Crane, MacDuff has been a member of the studio of Dr. Shelly Tramposh and studied with Dr. Esme Allen-Creighton for a semester.
