CHESTER, PA (05/28/2013)(readMedia)-- Blake Crowther of Ephrata, Pa., was recently commissioned as a second lieutenant of the U.S. Army through the ROTC program at Widener University. Crowther had his rank pinned on during the commissioning ceremony by his father, Tim, and uncle, Craig Rockey. He received his first salute from his grandfather, Cpl. (Ret.) Ted Crowther.
Widener serves as the host for Army ROTC activity at area institutions. Cadets hail from the Abington and Brandywine campuses of Pennsylvania State University, Cheyney University of Pennsylvania, Immaculata University, Neumann University, Villanova University and West Chester University of Pennsylvania to make up the Dauntless Battalion.
During his senior year, Crowther served the Dauntless Battalion as the battalion command sergeant major and co-commander. He is a graduate of the Leader Development and Assessment Course.
Crowther will enter active duty by attending the Army's Logistics Basic Officer Leader Course at Fort Lee, Va. He will serve the Army as an ordnance officer.
Crowther graduated from West Chester University on May 18 with a degree in criminal justice.
