DA Cyrus Vance to receive award for prosecuting insurance-fraud cases

Prosecuting major firefighter-police disability case, will answer media questions

NEW YORK, N.Y. (03/25/2014)(readMedia)-- NEWS ALERT

WHAT: Presentation of the Prosecutor of the Year Award to Manhattan DA Cyrus Vance by the New York Alliance Against Insurance Fraud. The luncheon presentation will highlight NYAAIF's annual membership meeting.

WHEN: 12 noon, Wednesday, March 26 at Apella at Alexandria Center, 450 East 29th Street, 2nd Floor.

WHY: Vance has prosecuted numerous insurance-fraud cases since he took office in 2010. Among the most prominent is the complex and massive disability-fraud case involving more than 100 New York police officers, fire fighters, and others, who allegedly stole hundreds of millions of dollars worth of federal disability money. As charged, many suspects falsely claimed lingering post-traumatic stress syndrome from 9/11. DA Vance also has aggressively gone after widespread no-fault staged-crash rings in New York. He has earned convictions against crooked no-fault clinics, doctors, medical providers and personal-injury attorneys.

NEWS UPDATE: Vance is expected to discuss the grand-jury report released Tuesday about workers compensation fraud in New York. He also will talk about the disability case and his office's response to insurance-fraud trends in New York. Questions will be welcomed.
