DHCR Announces Economic Development Grants to Help Water Technologies Locate in Frankfurt, Create 18 Jobs

Deborah VanAmerongen, Commissioner of the NYS Division of Housing and Community Renewal (DHCR) today announced $266,000 in NYS Community Development Block Grant (NYS CDBG) awards to the Village of Frankfurt to help a major start-up company, Tibro Water Technologies, Inc., locate in the Village of Frankfurt and create 18 new full-time jobs, 15 of which will be available to low and moderate-income workers.

TibroWater Technologies will manufacture and distribute sodium hypochlorite (bleach) using state-of-the-art technology that dramatically reduces environmental hazards typically associated with bleach production. This NYS CDBG award will allow the village to purchase a former manufacturing facility on a remediated Brownfield site and prepare it for development by Tibro Water Technologies.

Governor David A. Paterson said, "Tibro Water Technologies is dedicated to finding innovative and environmentally-conscious ways to meet consumer demands. Tibor Water Technologies will bring jobs for working families to Frankfurt and make the community and the entire state stronger."

DHCR Commissioner Deborah VanAmerongen said, "This award will help the Village of Frankfurt purchase a remediated Brownfield and secure a long-term lease with Tibro. This company will not only bring jobs to Frankfurt and Herkimer County, but it will introduce new technology in the production of bleach and make the process safer and more efficient."

The NYS CDBG grants were approved by the state's Housing Trust Fund Corporation, which is administered by the Division of Housing and Community Renewal and chaired by DHCR Commissioner VanAmerongen . The NYS CDBG program is federally funded and administered by DHCR's Office of Community Renewal. The program provides grants to small communities in order to: ensure decent affordable housing, provide services to the most vulnerable, create jobs and expand business opportunities, and improve community facilities and services.
