DMU kids health fair promotes physical activity to fight obesity

Kids learn fitness can be fun at Mission: Active

DES MOINES, IA (01/24/2014)(readMedia)-- Des Moines University is hosting the fourth annual Mission: Active health fair, a free event for kids, on Saturday, February 1, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Olsen Center, 3200 Grand Avenue.

Mission: Active has more than 20 different activities in store to engage children in fitness and teach healthy habits. Kids can expect to conquer an obstacle course, learn about healthy lifestyles, play fun, new games and win wellness-related prizes.

"Medical research has continually shown that nutrition and physical activity as children has a profound impact on our long-term emotional and physical health. We believe that the best way to improve community health care is by engaging children and their families to make the healthy choice the first choice," said Adam Peterson, D.O. student and event co-organizer. "The goal of this health fair is to inspire kids to be creative in finding ways to eat healthy and be active at home and in school."
