LA MIRADA, CA (04/30/2014)(readMedia)-- Biola's record-smashing women's swimming and diving program looks to continue its success with commitments from twin sisters Sophia and Sammy Dammann. The identical twins enter Biola in the fall after graduating this spring from Freeport High School in Illinois.
Sophia, the oldest by seven minutes, is a two-time all-conference athlete and qualified for state in the 500-freestyle. Keeping up with her big sister, Sammy is also an all-conference selection who qualified for state in the 400-freestyle relay.
Both swimmers are exceptional students, with Sophia winning the 2014 IHSA State Scholar award and Sammy maintaining a 3.9 grade point average. They both plan on entering Biola's Torrey Honors program with Sophia majoring in journalism and integrated media and Sammy majoring in English.
"They bring a lot of talent and diversity to our team," said Head Coach Eddie Shepard. "They are talented swimmers, great students and I look forward to seeing them thrive here at Biola."
