OSWEGO, NY (01/31/2013)(readMedia)-- OSWEGO -- The National Conference on Undergraduate Research has accepted a scholarly paper by SUNY Oswego senior Danielle Citro of Miller Place, making her eligible to present her findings at the organization's 27th conference, April 11 to 13 at the University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse.
Citro's paper, titled "Period-Luminosity Relations for Small Magellanic Cloud Cepheid Based on AKARI Archival Data," was done under the mentorship of Shashi Kanbur, professor of physics at SUNY Oswego. The work advances understanding of Cepheid variable stars and their role in informing the size-scale of the universe.
"Chosen from more than 3,500 submissions, your abstract demonstrates a unique contribution to your field of study and we are pleased to offer you the opportunity to present your work to your peers, faculty, and staff from around the world," the abstract review committee wrote to Citro.
According to the NCUR website, students from more than 300 institutions and representing nearly all academic disciplines will make presentations at the conference, and attendance is anticipated to exceed 3,000 students, faculty mentors and administrators.
SUNY Oswego, a 151-year-old comprehensive college in the State University of New York system, provides many opportunities for undergraduate research. Admission to SUNY Oswego is competitive. U.S. News Media Group counts SUNY Oswego among the top public regional universities in the North for 2013, and the Princeton Review includes Oswego in its 2013 college guidebook "The Best Northeastern Colleges," as well as its 2013 list of "best value" colleges and universities nationally.
