SCHENECTADY, NY (01/18/2013)(readMedia)-- David Thai of Dorchester, MA, has been selected as a Posse Scholar at Union College in Schenectady, NY.
The Posse Scholar program identifies public high school students with extraordinary academic and leadership potential. Union College is one of Posse's nearly 40 partner colleges and universities, each of which award four-year, full-tuition leadership scholarships to groups of 10 students – or Posses – annually.
Thai, who attends the Josiah Quincy Upper School, was chosen after a rigorous selection process. He is an exemplary student whom his teachers praise as "hard working" and a "class leader." Thai has selected the most challenging classes his school offers and is on track to graduate with an International Baccalaureate diploma. He founded his school's running club and works at the school store, where he created, designed, and sold t-shirts to promote school spirit. Through his involvement with Castle Square Tenants Organization, Thai has served as a volunteer assistant event planner, technology center intern and youth council member. An aspiring filmmaker, he also created a documentary about his father. In his summer internship with Think Big Dream Big, he created documentaries about community change-makers. Thai has also participated in C5 New England/Crossroads for Kids where he been able to exercise his leadership skills while making an impact on his community.
