David Walsh Elected Clarkson University Trustee

POTSDAM, NY (06/05/2018) Clarkson University alumnus David A. Walsh '67 of Spotsylvania, Va., has been elected to the University's Board of Trustees. He will serve on the Internal Affairs and Facilities committees.

Dr. Walsh has over 40 years of discovery research, chemical process development and corporate management experience with large and emerging pharmaceutical companies. He began his professional career with A. H. Robins company in Richmond, VA where his lab was responsible for the synthesis of bromfenac (Duract®, Xibrom®) and nepafenac (Nevanac®), two drugs that are on the U.S. commercial market.

He has been employed by Nutrasweet Co., Gem Pharmaceuticals, BioCryst Pharmaceuticals and finished his career at United Therapeutics in Silver Spring, MD where he was Executive VP of Chemical Research and Development. He is still a Senior Advisor to this company. Dr. Walsh has published in six decades, and is the co-author of over 60 technical publications, and has been awarded 42 U.S. patents.

He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from Clarkson in 1967, and his Master of Science and Ph.D. degrees in Organic Chemistry from the University of New Hampshire in 1970 and 1973. During this time he was drafted into the U.S. Army and served at the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research working in their anti-malarial program. He then spent a post-doctoral year studying medicinal chemistry at the University of Kansas.

Dr. Walsh retired in 2015. He and his wife of over 50 years, Judy Levko Walsh (SUNY Potsdam '68), reside in Spotsylvania, Va. They have two daughters living in TX and one grandchild. Dave's time is now spent playing golf, participating in various card-playing groups and volunteering in several neighborhood organizations. He also serves as Chairman of the Advisory Committee for the Dean of the School of Arts & Sciences.
