DELHI, NY (04/20/2012)(readMedia)-- The Delaware County Town Highway Superintendents Association recently awarded three scholarships to SUNY Delhi construction majors.

Dominic Galasso of Hobart, and Eric Van Tyle and Cody Tweedie of Walton were each awarded a $500 scholarship toward their education at SUNY Delhi.

"The Association's scholarship fund has helped many Delaware County students pursue their educational goals and we are very grateful for its support for our students," said Professor Steve McKeegan. The Association has supported Delhi construction majors since the mid-1960's and continues today with SUNY Delhi's Construction Technology and Management Programs.

The Delaware County Town Highway Superintendents Association was formed in the 1950's to help the town highway departments work together and compare "best practices" and "means and methods." Monthly lunches are sponsored by area vendors (material suppliers and contractors involved in town and county public works projects) and give both government and vendors an opportunity to meet and discuss items such as upcoming projects, regulations, and safety. The Association also works closely with the Delaware County Department of Public Works and the many material suppliers and contractors involved in town and county public works projects.

SUNY Delhi's construction program was the first of its kind in the U.S. and has a faculty of experienced educators with first-hand experience in the construction industry. The college offers a Construction Technology Associate in Applied Science (A.A.S.) degree, which is nationally accredited by the American Council for Construction Education, and a Construction Management Bachelor of Technology degree.
