Dennison Named New OCTC Paramedic Program Coordinator

New Cohorts Begin in August, Labs Offered in Owensboro, Paducah, Bowling Green, and Elizabethtown

OWENSBORO, KY (07/17/2018) Owensboro Community & Technical College (OCTC) has named Joe Dennison as the new Paramedic Technology program coordinator. Dennison joined OCTC as a paramedic lab instructor in 2017, after serving as lead paramedic instructor at Western Kentucky University for five years. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Organizational Leadership from Mid Continent University and attained his Kentucky Paramedic credential in 1986. Dennison is also certified as a Lean Six Sigma Black Belt, providing instruction and team leadership for improvement efforts in various businesses, presenting at state and international events.

Dr. Scott Williams, OCTC President commented, "We are fortunate to have Joe who is very qualified, has lots of real world experiences and is very passionate about this program. That passion really comes through to the students."

Dennison added, "I am excited to lead this quality program. My vision for the program is twofold, to improve the quality of the students' educational experience; and to enhance relationships with our partners in the communities that we serve."

OCTC's Paramedic Technology program will be starting a new cohort of students in August. The four-semester program is delivered in a hybrid format, mostly online with minimal face to face sessions. It is hosted at OCTC but will have learning labs in Paducah, Bowling Green, and Elizabethtown. Students may complete the program with a certificate and an Associate Degree.

OCTC's Paramedic program is accredited by the Committee on Accreditation of Educational Programs for the Emergency Medical Service Professions (CoAEMSP). The curricula meets paramedic instructional guidelines set forth by the National EMS Education Standards and the Kentucky Board of Emergency Medical Services (KBEMS). Graduates are eligible to take the Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic (EMT-P) National Registry Examination. This is a limited admission program and interested students should be certified as an EMT.

OCTC is currently enrolling for the fall semester which begins August 13. Interested students may apply online at Owensboro.kctcs.edu or stop by the START Center on the Main Campus at 4800 New Hartford Road, Owensboro. The START Center is open Monday - Thursday 8 a.m.- 5:30 p.m. and Friday 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
