Denver native Abbye Neel presents at Murdock College Science Research Conference
WALLA WALLA, WA (11/01/2012)(readMedia)-- Denver native Abbye Neel recently presented her findings on streams in New York City at the Murdock College Science Research Conference at Whitman College.
Neel recently participated in a Research Experience for Undergrads with the Department of Environmental Education in New York City and SUNY New Paltz. Neel completed a stream feature inventory of Warner Creek in New York City. In New York City, the water is not filtered, in exchange for having an extensive stream management program where Turbidity is the main concern. Warner Creek in particular has been cited as a fine sediment source, so Neel was interested in assessing the geomorphological change the stream has undergone, especially given the large floods that have come through the area in the past few years.
Neal is the daughter of Edgar Neel and Betsy Shumaker from Denver, Colorado., and is a 2009 graduate of East High School.
At Whitman, Neal is a senior Geology major, plays Intramural flag-football, and is also a member of the Club Lacrosse team.
