Des Moines Baker Wins State Fair Two-Crust Pie Honors

DES MOINES, IA (09/05/2024) (readMedia)-- Jackie Garnett of Des Moines won First Place Overall in the North "40" Pie Contest judged Sunday, August 11, at the 2024 Iowa State Fair.

Entrants were tasked to create an award-winning two-crust pie that did not use canned pie filling.

Pies were judged on flavor and appearance.

The Iowa State Fair Food Department is the largest of any state fair in the country. There were 140 divisions, 726 classes and over 6,400 entries at this year's Fair. Food Department judging is held in the Elwell Family Food Center.
