Samuel Wallace of Des Moines was appointed to the Des Moines University Board of Trustees during the board's August meeting.

Wallace retired in 2007 as president of Iowa Health System, a role he had served since 1995. Before that he was executive vice president of St. Luke's Methodist Hospital in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, from 1975 to 1981 and then was named its president. He was an active leader in numerous professional organizations, including the American Hospital Association, American College of Healthcare Executives and Voluntary Hospitals of America.

Wallace also served on several corporate boards as well as the Greater Des Moines Partnership board and the Cedar Rapids/Marion County Chamber of Commerce. He chaired or served community endeavors, too, including Boy Scouts of America and fundraisers for March of Dimes, Juvenile Diabetes Foundation and other organizations.

A medical service corps administrative officer and First Infantry Division adjutant during the Vietnam War, Wallace earned his bachelor of science degree in biology at the University of Missouri, Columbia, and his master of science degree in hospital administration at the Washington University School of Medicine.

Seven current members were also reappointed to three-year terms at the August meeting. They are as follows:

  • W. Stevenson Glanton, J.D., retired attorney, Des Moines
  • Richard Kotz, D.O., FAOCPA, FCAP, retired pathologist, Des Moines
  • Anil Sahai, Ph.D., D.O., internal medicine physician and medical director, Webster City Medical Clinic, Webster City, Iowa
  • Jacqueline Stoken, D.O., physician, Heartland Holistic Health, Des Moines.

Officers for 2009-2010 are as follows:
