DANVILLE, IL (03/26/2019) Lakeview College of Nursing will hold a research day for its faculty, staff and students on Friday, March 29 from 9 am to Noon at the Doudna Fine Arts Building located on the campus of Eastern Illinois University at 600 Lincoln Ave., in Charleston, IL. The event will focus on diversity, equity, and inclusion and will include a guest speaker.
Rita Wallace, who is one of the event's organizers and an assistant professor at Lakeview, said, "We are excited to welcome Dr. John J. Cooper to share his thoughts on diversity, equity and inclusion and its importance in healthcare. Cooper has a wonderful way of delivering a meaningful message in a humorous way."
This semester's Research Day event will also include the presentation of the College's first-ever DAISY Award at approximately 11:30 a.m. Wallace explained that Lakeview's professional development committee sought nominations so that they can recognize extraordinary students and faculty members through this national recognition program. Over 3,500 healthcare facilities and schools of nursing in all 50 states and 21 other countries honor nurses with The DAISY Award. "We are all excited to have this new opportunity be a part of our Research Day event," exclaimed Wallace.
And, speaking of opportunities, there will be a career fair with representatives from local hospitals and healthcare agencies and raffles throughout the day's activities, according to Wallace.
In addition, a group of senior-level students from each campus will be presenting service projects at approximately 11 a.m. during the Research Day event. Wallace explained that the students are assigned a group legacy project as a way for them to give back to the community and work together as a team.
