Dorothy “Dot” Taylor Sheehan recipient of the Profile of Service Award

DURHAM, NH (10/08/2012)(readMedia)-- Dorothy "Dot" Taylor Sheehan of Hampton will be honored Saturday, Nov. 3, 2012, during the University of New Hampshire Alumni Association's annual Alumni Achievement Awards Ceremony recognizing eight outstanding alumni who have made notable contributions to the UNH community, the state or the nation.

A member of the Class of 1971, Sheehan is a recipient of the Profile of Service Award. The senior associate athletic director for external relations at UNH has built her career on a can-do approach to good ideas, including the highly successful Operation Hat Trick launched in 2007. Today, thanks to Sheehan, thousands of veterans have baseball hats to cover their head wounds and, as one vet told her, help them feel normal again. Proceeds of all hat sales go to support recovering veterans. The program is dedicated to Navy SEAL Nate Hardy, son of UNH professor Steve Hardy and his wife Donna, and also to Mike Koch, a fellow SEAL who was killed alongside Nate in Iraq. A small idea with a very big impact, Operation Hat Trick, which recently went national and includes more than 30 colleges and universities, celebrates the spirit of outreach that defines UNH.

Other 2012 award winners include the recipients of the Alumni Meritorious Service Award, Frank E. "Ted" Wheatley '76 of Winchester, Mass., Frederick "Fritz" Armstrong III '57 of South Wellfleet, Mass.; Cheryl Kuebler Dickson '63 of Manchester; and Deborah Narinkevicuis Overdeput '82 of Salem. The other Profile of Service Award recipient is Valerie "Val" Wilcox England of Durham. The Award of Excellence for Outstanding Achievement goes to Margaret-Alice "M.A." Haggart Lucas '64 of Bethesda, Md. The Young Alumna Achievement Award goes to Katharina "Katy" Fader Lilly '00 of Durham.

The awards will be presented by Alumni Association student scholarship recipients. "Bringing student and alumni leaders together is a special way to commemorate this occasion," says Steve Donovan, associate vice president of advancement and executive director of the UNH Alumni Association.
