MANKATO, MN (01/14/2010)(readMedia)-- Doug Toreen, a soybean producer from Bird Island, Minn. has been named one of the MSGA Directors of the Year by President Bill Zurn at the MN Soybean Ag Expo Awards Luncheon Monday.

"We have an extraordinary board of directors and every year it's difficult to choose someone to receive this award," Zurn says. "Doug has been a steadfast advocate for our organization through his recruiting efforts for a number of years. MSGA needs volunteers like him who are willing to go the extra mile to ensure we remain a strong voice for soybean farmers in Washington DC and St. Paul."

In 2009 Toreen recruited a total of 40 members for MSGA, making him Minnesota's second highest recruiter. When compared to the efforts of his fellow MSGA board members, Toreen's efforts account for 16 percent of the memberships recruited this past year.

For 44 years Toreen has farmed in Renville County. He and his wife Carol grow a diverse crop of corn, soybeans, sweet corn and peas.

The Minnesota Soybean Growers Association is a non-profit, farmer-controlled membership organization established in 1962. Its goal is to assure profitable soybean farming by monitoring government policies and supporting research and market development activities.
