NEW ROCHELLE, NY (10/24/2011)(readMedia)-- The College of Arts & Sciences Honors Convocation was held on Saturday, October 22, 2011, in Holy Family Chapel on the main campus in New Rochelle. Diane M. D'Isidori, Class of 1981, addressed the undergraduates receiving scholarships and awards.
Dr. D'Isidori received her BS in Biology at CNR in 1981. She then attended Albany Medical College. In 1988 Dr. D'Isidori completed her residency in pediatrics at Boston Floating Hospital for Children. After her residency, she started a private pediatric practice with her husband, Dr. Evan Hack, in New Milford, Ct.
In 2001 she left a private practice to raise their two sons and to study the role of nutrition, complementary medicine and environmental factors in the health of children. She became involved with her local hospital, school district, and several community organizations to help create and support programs aimed at educating children and their families about their health and the factors that affect it.
She is the co-founder of "Plow to Plate," a coalition of healthcare providers, hospitals, farmers, chefs and policy makers that promotes agriculture and locally-grown foods as a source of disease prevention and environmental stewardship. This program has received national recognition as well as several healthcare and agriculture awards.
Dr. D'Isidori is also co-chair of "The Walking Project," an initiative in conjunction with "New Milford Healthy Community 2020" that partners local businesses and organizations with Milford's fifth graders to encourage the "3 Es" – Exercise, Eating Well and Environmental Awareness. Dr. D'Isidori and her colleagues presented on this initiative at the 2010 American Academy of Pediatrics National Conference in San Francisco.
Most recently, Dr. D'Isidori and her husband were awarded a $40,000 Pediatric Obesity Prevention grant by the United Way to develop a hands-on educational center within the practice to teach, support, and empower families to make healthy decisions about their children's health.
An active alum of CNR, Dr. D'Isidori has been a mentor to students considering a career in medicine and she recently spoke at CNR on her healthy-eating initiatives in conjunction with CNR's newly-established Campus Sustainability Garden.
