Dr. James Kimball Named Iowan of the Day

OSCEOLA, IA (07/31/2008)(readMedia)-- The Iowa State Fair Blue Ribbon Foundation and Cookies Food Products are honored to name Dr. James Kimball as an Iowan of the Day for the 2008 Iowa State Fair.
Jim has dedicated a significant amount of time, effort, and resources over the years to the communities of Osceola, Clarke County, and the state of Iowa. He organized the first nursery school in Clarke County, has sponsored underprivileged children in the area, and sought the funds to buy an adequate ambulance for the county. Jim helped the Osceola Public Library to meet its financial goal to add a new wing, and has helped to nurture the Osceola Airport. Jim also frequently donates his personal hangar for use in various community events. Jim has been an active leader in several state medical groups including the Iowa Medical Alliance, the Iowa Board of Health, and the Iowa Heart Association Board of Directors. Jim has also been a major sponsor and supporter of fine arts in Osceola, including various murals, sculptures, exhibits, and performing arts. He also initiated the idea for the future Clarke County riverboat.
Jim's day of honor at the Iowa State Fair will be Thursday, August 14. Jim will receive a night's stay at the Des Moines Downtown Marriott, VIP Parking at the Fair, special use of the Iowan of the Day golf cart, $200 in cash, tickets to the Vanessa Hudgens & Corbin Bleu concert at the Grandstand, and subscriptions to Iowan and Iowa Gardening magazines. Jim will be part of a special presentation on the Anne & Bill Riley Stage at 2:15 p.m. on August 14.
The Blue Ribbon Foundation began the Iowan of the Day award in 1997 to honor those Iowans who've truly made a difference for those around them. The Foundation reviews over 250 nominations each year, and selects those that show examples of integrity, decency, hard work, and dedication to community improvement.
The Blue Ribbon Foundation is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization. Since its inception in 1993, the Foundation has generated over $65 million for renovations and improvements to the Iowa State Fairgrounds.
