PHILADELPHIA, PA (10/22/2010)(readMedia)-- Michelle E. Cohen, PhD, has been named associate dean of Samson College of Health Sciences at University of the Sciences. Prior to this appointment, Dr. Cohen was associate dean for research and scholarship at Samson College. Dr. Cohen will continue as an associate professor of occupational and physical therapy.
As associate dean, Dr. Cohen will continue to facilitate faculty research endeavors, scholarly activities and grant submission, serving as liaison with the University's research office. In addition, she will expand her role to include management of student issues, and other initiatives at Samson College.
Dr. Cohen's background is in educational and experimental psychology, and she has over 25 years of academic research, teaching and scholarship in rehabilitation research. Her research interests are focused on client centered therapies, functional outcomes of spinal cord injury, and measurement of rehabilitation outcomes. She further has over 30 peer reviewed publications and more than 40 presentations at national and international conferences. She is currently a reviewer for three rehabilitation journals, serves on the editorial board for the Journal of Allied Health, and on the field-initiated projects grant review panel for the National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research. Dr. Cohen served as the founding president of the University of the Sciences Faculty Senate.
Dr. Cohen received her bachelor's degree in psychology from Arcadia University, her MEd and PhD in educational psychology from Temple University and did post-doctoral training in experimental psychology at Bryn Mawr College. Prior to joining USciences, Dr. Cohen spent 13 years at Thomas Jefferson University, eight of which were as the research coordinator in the Regional Spinal Cord Injury Center of Delaware Valley and as an associate professor in the Occupational Therapy and Physical Therapy Departments.
Dr. Cohen currently resides in Wayne, Pennsylvania.
