Dr. Randel Everett Named to Hardin-Simmons Board of Trustees

ABILENE, TX (03/07/2012)(readMedia)-- Dr. Randel Everett, of Midland, Texas, has been named to the Hardin-Simmons University Board of Trustees.

Dr. Randel Everett became senior pastor of First Baptist Church Midland in January 2011. Prior to his service with FBC Midland, Everett served as executive director of the Baptist General Convention of Texas from 2008 to 2011.

He holds a master's degree (MDiv) and a doctorate (DMin) from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas; a Doctor of Divinity degree from University of Richmond, Richmond, Virginia; and he earned a BA from Ouachita Baptist University, Arkadelphia, Arkansas, in 1971.

Everett is the founding president of the John Leland Center for Theological Studies in Arlington, Virginia. During his time at the Leland Center he also served as the senior pastor of First Baptist Church of Newport News, Virginia.

Everett served as chair of the Christian Life Committee while pastoring in Arkansas, and has served in significant leadership roles through the Baptist World Alliance, including serving as chair of the 2000 BWA Pastors Conference in Melbourne, Australia.

He has also served the BWA as chair of the Think Tank on Evangelism, chair of the Mission and Evangelism Committee, and as a member of the program and resolutions committees. He also helped the BWA locate to Falls Church, Virginia, across the street from the Columbia Baptist Church where he was pastor.

The historic First Baptist Church of Gonzales, Texas, was his first fulltime pastorate. Everett left Gonzales to become the pastor of the Inglewood Baptist Church of Grand Prairie, Texas, where he led more than 30 friendship evangelism seminars in partnership with Texas Baptists.

Everett also served as pastor of First Baptist Church of Benton, Arkansas, and pastor of University Baptist Church of Fort Worth, Texas.

While executive director of the BGCT Everett was the convocation speaker during HSU's 2008 convocation, and recently was a guest lecturer and facilitator who joined Logsdon faculty members to engage students through the Doctor of Ministry program. He recently officiated at the funeral service of former HSU trustee Judge John Hyde.

Dr. Everett and his wife, Sheila, have two adult children, Jeremy and Rachel, and two grandsons.
