E-town College, elementary students share knowledge of alternative vehicle power

Engineering teams demonstrate solar-powered cars

ELIZABETHTOWN, PA (04/13/2018) Students from the Elizabethtown College Department of Engineering will showcase solar car designs to six-grade students at Elizabethtown's Bear Creek Elementary School. The younger students happen to be working on their own car designs. Theirs are wind-powered.

At the College, teams of first-year students build solar cars and race them on the College track, as part of Scholarship and Creative Arts Days, which takes place later this month.

Coincidentally, all of the sixth-grade classrooms at Bear Creek in the Elizabethtown School District are learning about wind power and have built their own vehicles this semester.

About two dozen E-town College students will present their research at an outdoor assembly (weather permitting) at Bear Creek, 1459 Sheaffer Road, at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, April 19. A demonstration of their solar-powered cars takes place around 3 p.m. after the science-fair-poster-type session and discussion. There will be a short-less than 100 meters-space for test runs.

The Elizabethtown College students will race their cars at noon Tuesday, April 24, at the Elizabethtown College track.
