NEW YORK, NY (04/02/2023) (readMedia)-- The cryptocurrency mining industry is nebulous and opaque, with few regulations and very little oversight. Cryptocurrency mining operations often claim to bring economic opportunity to the communities they open in, including dozens or even hundreds of jobs. But there is little to no independent data to prove if those job claims are true. There is, however, plenty of data that show the industry is highly energy intensive and polluting (see also page 20, "Reports of Cryptocurrency Mining Jobs Have Been Greatly Overstated").
Members of communities in Texas, New York, and Georgia impacted by polluting cryptocurrency mining operations will share dispatches from their regions and call on cryptocurrency miners to open their doors and set the record straight on the jobs they create, or lack thereof.
