WILLIMANTIC, CT (01/25/2012)(readMedia)-- Gail Gelburd of Otis, MA, professor of art history at Eastern Connecticut State University, is featured in the fall 2011 edition of the magazine Ars Atelier, a Spanish/English arts magazine published in Paris. Gelburd is interviewed about exhibition "Ajiaco: Stirrings of the Cuban Soul," which she curated at museums throughout the United States. The book that accompanied the exhibition was published by the University Press of New England.
"Ajiaco: Stirrings of the Cuban Soul" was also part of a statewide celebration of Caribbean and Latino art in Connecticut that included exhibitions in Bridgeport, New Haven, Willimantic, Waterbury and Norwalk, as well as the Newark Museum in New Jersey, the Lyman Allyn Art Museum in New London, and the Paul and Lulu Hilliard University Art Museum of Lafayette, LA.
Gelburd has served on numerous boards and councils, including the Lee, Massachusetts-based Council for Creative Projects, the Ludwig Foundation in Cuba, the Farmington River School District school board, and the Berkshire Museum Board in Pittsfield. She has taught at the School of Visual Arts in New York, Malloy College, Springfield College, Berkshire Community College, and at Hofstra University, where she was also the museum director for more than 12 years. She is currently the chair of the Department of Visual Arts at Eastern Connecticut State University. Gelburd has presented and lectured throughout the United States, Africa, Europe and Asia. She has received numerous grants and awards for her work. In addition, she has been published by the University of Pennsylvania Press.
