LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ (08/01/2012)(readMedia)-- Dr. Lauren Eder of Princeton, N.J., professor of Information Systems and Supply Chain Management, has been named the director of the Center for International Business at Rider University. This is Eder's second tenure as the Center's director. She succeeds Dr. Cynthia Newman, associate professor of Marketing, who oversaw the Center for two years.
As a faculty member at Rider University, Eder has led a number of initiatives to integrate international education in her classes and beyond. In 2008, she was awarded the Business and International Education (BIE) grant from the U.S. Department of Education to help expand international business programs at Rider. The funds were allocated over a two-year period for new course development, faculty development and travel, guest speakers, new international alliances, and student scholarships for short-term study abroad courses offered in the College of Business. In 2009, she taught a management information systems seminar to Ph.D. students at the Universidad de Panama as part of the Fulbright Specialist Program. Two years ago, Eder assisted in the development of a microfinance program in the heart of the Mekong Delta region of Vietnam. She worked with faculty and students from Dong Thap University and Vietnamese social workers to implement the program. In the 2011 spring semester, Eder led a two-week EMBA International Seminar course to Vietnam and China, where Rider students met with Dong Thap representatives in the project and offer their advice to improve the program. During a research leave of absence in spring 2012, Eder expanded the project in Vietnam by creating a Cloud-based reporting system to enhance the international collaboration. Eder also taught the 2012 EMBA International seminar with travel to Chile and Argentina in May and was one of the faculty members that led the International Study Tour to Cuba in March.
"I anticipate that Lauren will work closely with the faculty and the Dean's Office, as we consider ways to re-imagine and further develop the Center for International Business." said Dr. Steven Lorenzet, dean of the College of Business Administration. "We have a great platform from which to build and I thank Cindy Newman for her service and contributions to the Center over the past two years, which helped build that platform."
Eder is a member of the Association for Information Systems, Association of Computing Machinery, Center for Creative Leadership, Council for International Education Exchange, Fulbright Association, and International Teachers Programme. She holds a Ph.D. in Management Information Systems and Organizational Behavior, and a M.B.A. in Management Information Systems from Drexel University. She received a B.S. in Business Education from Boston University.
