Chassix Mechanical Inspection Certificate Program Graduates

BATAVIA, NY (05/17/2017) (readMedia)-- In a fast-changing, technologically savvy world-staying abreast of mechanical innovations while working a regular schedule is ever a challenge. A recent partnership between Chassix Automotive Inc., a local, automotive-parts manufacturer in Genesee County and The BEST Center of Genesee Community College provided a unique training program that gave eight Chassix employees the opportunity to enhance their skills set and advance their knowledge and company contribution while maintaining their weekly work schedule.

The partnership began in March 2016 with representatives of Chassix and The BEST Center discussing the business training needs within Chassix's Quality Inspection Department. The "Mechanical Inspection Certificate Program" offered five valuable core topics, including Technical Math, Basic Blueprint Reading, Advanced Blueprint Reading, Metrology and Geometrics and eight Chassix employees were identified who could benefit from the unique training program that covered 120 hours of classroom and hands-on training. All eight employees earned GCC academic credit hours towards the Computer and Drafting Design Program and completing a three credit (EGR117) Engineering Blueprint Reading) course.

As the course curriculum, scheduling and different employment work schedules began to align, it was apparent that Chassix could host the training program right in the company's plant in Batavia. In addition, the program could be flexible enough to allow the eight employees who worked three different shifts to attend. The program started on November 1, 2016 and concluded on March 28, 2017 with a graduation ceremony at the plant.

Official Mechanical Inspection Certificates were awarded to the following student employees who successfully completed the program: Scott Deuel, Jessica Engelhardt, Brian Gombos, David Goodband, Anthony Muntz, Cortney Richardson, Kyle Sherwood and Ben Starkweather.

Chassix was formed through the integration of the Diversified Machine, Inc. (DMI) and SMW, LLC businesses. It is now the industry's largest single integrated resource for high-quality, precision-chassis casting and machining solutions, with manufacturing capabilities in every key region of the world.

"Chassix is continuously working on being the foremost recognized automotive-knuckle supplier in the world and encourages this type of endeavor," Steve Rogers, Chassix quality supervisor said. "The training program that The BEST Center formulated included the disciplines for quality inspectors which will help contribute to our organization goals. The Mechanical Inspection Certificate Program was a win, both for the employee participants as they have become more competent in their skills and for Batavia Chassix in obtaining a more competent workforce to help us compete in the global market place. The instructors were hands-on and the student participants enjoyed the different programs and interaction with instructors. This was one of the best programs that I have seen in my twenty plus years in the Quality Assurance field."
