Elizabeth Haynie of Shreveport Wins Johnson Opportunity Grant at W&L

LEXINGTON, VA (07/23/2010)(readMedia)-- Elizabeth Haynie, from Shreveport, La., a senior at Washington and Lee University, has been awarded a Johnson Opportunity Grant to participate in the MedSpanish Pre-Professional Summer Internship program in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico.

Haynie is a business administration major with a pre-medical concentration. She will spend two weeks taking classes in medical Spanish, as well as getting hands-on medical experience in Mexican clinics.

Haynie is a graduate of C.E. Byrd High School. She is the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Richard E. Haynie of Shreveport.

W&L's Johnson Opportunity grants are awarded through a competitive process and students receive amounts from $1,000 to $4,500 to provide funds to cover travel, living expenses and other costs associated with a project or summer activity. The grants are funded by a gift to W&L, which also created scholarships and a lecture and symposia series focusing on leadership and two endowed professorships.
