LORETTO, PA (03/21/2011)(readMedia)-- Elizabeth Wheeler, a junior education major at Saint Francis University, was recently awarded a grant through the School of Arts & Letters' Intrepid program. Wheeler, a Tyrone native, will compose eight oil paintings depicting scenes of winter and spring in Central Pennsylvania. Her paintings, drawn from her own experiences, will be completed as part of a Special Projects Painting course supervised by Mr. Chuck Olson, Professor of Fine Arts at Saint Francis. The eight paintings will be part of an on-campus exhibit at the start of the fall semester.
Wheeler, who studied art in high school, has taken several art classes at Saint Francis. She also studied art in Parma, Italy, during the university's "Springtime in Italy" study abroad program.
Intrepid, a grant program for undergraduate students in the university's School of Arts & Letters, helps to support student research, service, and/or academic projects.
To be eligible to receive an Intrepid grant, a student must be a junior or senior and have a cumulative GPA of at least a 3.25. The student is also required to write a proposal that outlines the purpose, goals, and costs of the project. The University awarded three Intrepid grants in Spring 2011.
